Making A Difference In The Lives Of Others.

For many years it was my pleasure to organize and to participate in charity golf tournaments. The format and the routine are pretty well known. You try to bring a foursome or two of people who you think would enjoy playing golf together but also appreciate the charities’ outreach and ministry. Sometimes your team will win prizes, and other times you can lament that there are too many sandbaggers playing against you. What I love the most about these events is that there are always some people you meet who are making a difference in the lives of others.

Thanks to my friend Ira Lockhart, I was invited to play in a first time tournament at the McDill Air Force base in Tampa, to support a group called “Computer Mentors”. There were many people who were part of the event including their Executive Director, Ralph Smith who embodied the ideal of giving to others and making a difference. Their outreach is to help train underprivileged kids in computers and give them experience in applying those skills to on the job possibilities. Imagine what a leg up that would give kids who come from families who cannot afford to buy or own a computer? By working with kids age 14 to 18, they are also being a positive witness in setting an example of what potential each of those young people might achieve in life. Thanks Ira & Ralph! You can also consider donating unused equipment as well as your time to the organization that is found at www.computermentors.org

Tom Blake is also one of those difference makers in the Tampa Bay area. He heads up an outreach called Executive Ministries and we can all appreciate the needs of people who are part of the management teams of American industry. Tom has been involved in the work of many ministries in the area including Kingdom Advisors as well as the National Christian Foundation thru our local organization Christian Legacy Foundation. My favorite story about Tom is how we ran into each other in a hospital room a few months back when a common friend had just had a stroke. It exemplified for me that he is all about being there for others to make a difference. If you would like to know more about his ministry, you can find it at www.emgolf.org as well as the tournament on Monday April 27. Thanks Tom for all you are doing for the Kingdom!

All of you who read this MMM are doing something special to serve in ways that help in the lives of others. I trust you will be open to even more ways to serve! Perhaps you have some ideas that could start a whole new ministry and movement. Give God a chance to work thru you to see that happen.

I Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV) “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
