Election Eve Observations!

I may be the only one who is exhausted from the election ads and propaganda that is foisted on us during campaign season. Stretching versions of the truth, half truth, distortion, deception, and all form of comic degradation has left me quite eager for someone to win and get on with it. As many of you know, I do not believe that any of the Presidential candidates represent my views very well and I am stuck again with choices that are less than what I believe represents our finest leaders. Having said that, I will tell you that whoever is elected, will be someone I will give respect and allegiance to as that is scriptural. All of the negative barbs being thrown out by the losers are a waste of time and energy. The people who are predicting dire consequences of electing the wrong person need to check their crystal balls at the same depository as the plans for the Edsel and New Coke!

Our country's economic conditions are under a great deal of duress. It is hard for us to get a positive picture when all of the news centers on the latest drop or rise of the stock market. The reality is that we will emerge from this situation and will be a pillar of strength in the world. Here are a few thoughts to ponder.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the USA this year will be $13-14 Trillion

The US Government will invest about $1 Trillion on bailout schemes (7-8% of GDP)

The total deficit of the US Government will approach $1 Trillion (7-8% of GDP)

The next closest country to the USA is China and their GDP will be $7 Trillion

No doubt the problems we face are going to be challenging but they are not insurmountable and some common sense approaches to many of these issues are way overdue. Will the people going into office be up to the tasks at hand? It is not too soon to start to pray for them! Let's turn down the negative volume and get behind our leaders and move forward!

Romans 13:6-7 (RSV) "For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, and honor to whom honor is due."
